Although summer seems to have disappeared this week I am ever hopeful it will return! So, I thought it would be helpful to list some top tips for protecting your skin when the sun appears again.
The most obvious form of skin protection and the one that immediately springs to mind is sun cream. There are lots to choose from but the most important thing to look out for is that they are UVA and UVB resistant. I stock Environ RAD which is available in a lotion or spray and lip sunscreen.
Different foods can play a part in protecting the skin – tomatoes, chocolate and leafy green vegetables such as Swiss chard and spinach are just three of the ones we all know about but this article highlights some of the “not so obvious” ones and is well worth reading http://elitedaily.com/wellness/foods-eat-skin-safe-sun/1529101/
If you have any foodie top tips for protecting the skin I would love to hear about them. Please post any ideas in the comments box.
Supplements are another useful way to help protect the skin in the sun. Please be aware that it is important to choose supplements from a premium range. In the salon I use The Advanced Nutrition Programme which is a range of premium skincare supplements that will help turbo boost the effects of your usual skincare regime. My favourite for use during the summer months is Skin Defender. This is specially formulated with vitamins E and C along with selenium and zinc – all antioxidants – that will help protect your skin cells from oxidative stress. Althought it will provide helpful nutritional support for your skin it should be used in conjunction with a good sunscreen.
And, finally, you need to dig out your favourite sunglasses and sunhat and you are ready to enjoy the rest of the summer!
